The main idea is to ensure complete transfer of the product and minimize exposure by rinsing the measuring container into the spray tank and then using that same container to transfer the rinsate. This practice recovers every bit of product and reduces the chance of spills or residue left on equipment. Many dry formulations are meant to be weighed rather than measured by volume, so relying on volume measurements alone can introduce dosing errors. Transferring by pouring without rinsing leaves product in the container and increases the risk of under- or over-dosing and operator exposure. Metal measuring utensils are not preferred because some pesticides can corrode or react with metal; plastic or other compatible materials are recommended for measuring.
